Bicycle Registration and Parking
Effective: Moved to Policy Library from UPM 12.7(2)
Contact: ISU Parking Division
Introduction
As with motor vehicle parking, the parking of bicycles must also be controlled to keep the campus safe and convenient for everyone. These regulations are intended to prevent bicycle parking in areas of high pedestrian traffic, areas that could cause a safety hazard, or could be disruptive to other people.
These regulations have been adopted under the authority granted to the Board of Regents by 262.69, Code of Iowa, and Iowa State University by Iowa Administrative Code 681-4.32 (262).
Policy Statement
All bicycles on the ISU campus must be registered and/or licensed through Iowa State University or the City of Ames. Registrations are available free of charge at DPS offices, Ames City Hall, all local bicycle shops, and various businesses throughout Ames.
Bicycles must be parked in the fixed racks provided. They must not be parked on lawns or sidewalks, or chained to trees, light poles, fences, benches, or other fixtures. Bicycles considered abandoned or improperly parked may be impounded by cutting and removing the locking devices, when necessary. Bicycles parked on disability access ramps will be immediately removed and impounded.
Bicycles may not be taken inside any building except when authorized by the Department of Public Safety.
