Introduction
Radiation producing devices are equipment capable of producing ionizing radiation including x-ray machines, x-ray diffraction systems, linear accelerators and electron microscopes. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS) requires registration of all radiation producing devices in Iowa. At ISU, Environmental Health and Safety administers the registration process and collects associated fees from campus departments.
Policy Statement
Each radiation producing device used at Iowa State University must be registered with the Iowa HHS and authorized for use by the Radiation Safety Committee. EH&S must be notified of the acquisition, transfer, or disposal of any radiation producing devices.
